African Arts in Education

Loved by Teachers, Powered by Students

We believe arts education is more than just observation.

Our dynamic programs invite students of all ages to actively participate as they drum, dance, and sing while connecting with African arts and culture. Through concerts, workshops, and residencies, we create lasting memories and meaningful cultural experiences.

Workshops

Drum

See the excitement in your students’ eyes as they receive hands-on training from master African drummers. Each student will learn technique, rhythm, interdependence, and cooperation, all while playing  authentic African instruments.

Dance

Students will engage in a high-spirited, rhythmic dance experience as they learn about traditional West African dance. Accompanied by live drumming, your students will connect with African culture through interactive movement and go home with some new moves!

STEAM

Principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math are explored in this highly interactive science of sound experience. Each student will work with the ropes to tune a drum, discovering the science behind how shape, size, and material affect drum sound.

All- School Assembly Concert

Take your students and teachers on an interactive musical journey that incorporates song, dance and audience participation.

  • "When students were allowed to ask questions at the end of drumming many 4th graders were eager to know about the languages the instructors spoke - as they had used /referenced different languages during the drumming activity. The energy and glow from students when they wanted to share that they too were multilingual was a powerful moment."

    - Sedona Stewart, Teacher, Johnny Appleseed School, Leominster

  • "The whole school was so clearly entranced with your performances and learned so much about different cultures' ways of celebrating and telling stories with music. Thank you so much for your dedication to spreading cultural knowledge to all, and sharing your talents with our young scholars!"

    - Kelly Langone, Teacher, JFK Elementary, Holbrook

  • “Students get to experience an authentic performance by African musicians and dancers. As much as I love teaching this music, I wasn’t raised in it - it’s so much better for kids to learn from culture- bearers when possible.”

    - Jen O’Shea, Music teacher in Dedham, MA

African Art Installation

Your students will experience a display of authentic African masks, statues, jewelry, sculptures, and instruments right in their school. This diverse collection introduces them to the rich cultures, traditions, and artistry of various regions across Africa.
